Transforming Supply Chains and Smallholder Farming with AI
Agriculture remains a cornerstone of Indonesia’s economy, contributing approximately 14% to the nation’s GDP and employing 29.36% of the labor force as of the first quarter of 2023. The sector is predominantly driven by smallholder producers, who make up 93% of the agricultural workforce. On a global scale, the rising population intensifies the demand for food, feed, fuel, and fiber, with projections indicating a need for 50% more food by 2050. This demand comes amidst pressing challenges, including limited natural resources, environmental pollution, ecological degradation, and climate change.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is emerging as a transformative technology in agriculture, offering innovative solutions to empower stakeholders and promote sustainable, cost-efficient production. By delivering accessible tools and actionable, data-driven insights, AI equips producers to enhance productivity, adapt to climate change, and integrate into global value chains.
To explore these opportunities, KOLTIVA’s Co-Founder and Board Member, Ainu Rofiq, will join a forum organized by the International Labour Organization under the theme “Cultivating Indonesia’s Agricultural Success: How AI Can Transform Agriculture for Food Security, Productivity, and Decent Work.” In this session, Rofiq will highlight how KOLTIVA leverages technology and AI to digitize agribusinesses and support smallholders, ultimately boosting productivity and improving livelihoods.
