Digital Skills and Jobs of the Future

ASEAN is one of the fastest-growing internet markets globally, with its digital economy projected to nearly triple to $1 trillion by 2030. However, the region faces significant challenges, such as varying development levels, regulatory capacity, infrastructure, and digital skills gaps. Research by the World Economic Forum highlights the stark differences in digital talent availability between developed and developing markets, with a quarter of jobs expected to evolve due to technology, sustainability, and geoeconomics over the next five years. Addressing these gaps will require innovative approaches to reskilling, upskilling, and facilitating job transitions. In this context, cross-border talent movement is crucial for accessing skills, driving innovation, and fostering economic growth.

To address the digital skills gap and improve talent mobility, ASEAN Member States have a unique opportunity to shape a forward-looking Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA). This initiative aims to build on national and regional efforts to respond to evolving digital dynamics and address talent shortages through enhanced regional cooperation. Our Chief Financial Officer, Mark Bruny, will provide insights on Digital Skills and Jobs of the Future in the context of the ASEAN DEFA. This session is part of the capacity-building component of the ASEAN Digital Economy Agreement Leadership (ASEAN DEAL) project, supported by the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund and implemented by the World Economic Forum.
