From Bait to Plate: Integrated Traceability Platform
Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing remains a pressing global issue, accounting for up to 20% of the world’s total catch. In some developing countries, this figure could be as high as 40% (Source: FAO, 2021). The seafood supply chain is particularly vulnerable to labor exploitation due to various factors, such as changes in the labor force. While the FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries sets out principles and standards for sustainable and responsible fishing, it does not explicitly address human rights or labor conditions in detail.
To address these critical issues, the USAID Sustainable Fish Asia Technical Support (SuFiA TS) is hosting the 'Regional Industry Forum and Workshop on Market Access Strategies Addressing Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing, Fair Labor, and Technology Potential Solutions’ event and our Head of Sector Aquatic Resources, Sarah Harding, is featured on a session “Technologies/Innovations in support to Fisheries Management (Tools and Methodologies)”.
With her expertise, she will cover the capability of KoltiTrace MIS include key features that help businesses address and mitigate human rights concerns and labor exploitation, with the goal of connecting small-scale suppliers to regional and global markets. She further will share how our extension service, KoltiSkills supports producers thrive in the sustainable supply chain by implementing risk mitigation efforts in the first mile of global supply chains.
