Advancing Global Coffee Sustainability by Empowering 475,000 Producers Worldwide

Updated: Jan 2

As global coffee markets raise expectations for sustainability and transparency, producers and exporters are facing a new reality shaped by increasingly stringent regulations. Coffee is now covered under the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), requiring exporters and roasters to demonstrate that every shipment is legally produced, fully traceable, and free from deforestation. While certifications such as Rainforest Alliance and Fairtrade have long supported sustainable production, EUDR introduces a new level of rigor through geolocation-based verification and stricter supply chain transparency, fundamentally reshaping how sustainability must be demonstrated.

“Global markets are raising the bar. With coffee now covered by regulations such as the EU Deforestation Regulation, certification alone is not enough. Buyers demand verified origin, legal sourcing, and assurance that supply chains are truly deforestation-free. Millions of coffee farmers rely on coffee for their livelihoods while protecting critical landscapes. Traceability is no longer a technical requirement, but it has become a bridge between producer welfare, environmental protection, and long-term market access. This is where Koltiva plays a pivotal role through digital platforms, field-level verification, and capacity building,” said Ainu Rofiq, Co-Founder and Board Member of Koltiva.

Responding to these challenges, Koltiva supports coffee supply chains through an end-to-end digital ecosystem that combines traceability technology with on-the-ground engagement. Today, Koltiva operates across 23 coffee-producing countries, empowering more than 475,000 producers, verifying over 1.1 million hectares of production area, and supporting 470+ companies across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. By digitizing supply chains from farm to export, Koltiva enables compliance with evolving regulations while delivering measurable impact at the producer level.

In Indonesia, where smallholder producers form the backbone of the coffee sector, Koltiva’s work demonstrates how traceability translates into real-world outcomes. In the Gayo Highlands of Aceh, Koltiva partners with Adena Coffee to digitalize traceability for more than 1,900 producers across 30 villages, ensuring deforestation-free sourcing aligned with EUDR requirements. In Central Java, PT Asal Jaya has strengthened production capacity while maintaining full transparency through structured farm mapping and agronomic support. Meanwhile, PT IndoCafco, part of Ecom Coffee Group, leverages Koltiva’s traceability tools alongside Cool Farm Tool integration to monitor on-farm emissions and identify climate mitigation strategies at the field level.

By connecting fragmented supply chains into a single, verified digital ecosystem, Koltiva helps the coffee sector move beyond compliance toward long-term resilience and inclusion. From improving producer livelihoods and protecting forest landscapes to safeguarding market access under regulations such as EUDR, Koltiva continues to demonstrate how digital traceability can drive sustainable transformation from origin to cup.
